Skin Graft Mesher Instruction Manual

Overview of Skin Graft Mesher Machine

The Skin Graft Mesher Machine is a surgical device used to expand split-thickness skin grafts by creating a uniform mesh pattern. This allows the graft to cover larger wound areas and improves fluid drainage and healing during reconstructive and burn surgery.

This instruction manual guides the safe operation, handling, and maintenance of the device.

Components of the Skin Graft Mesher

A standard skin graft mesher system typically includes:

  • Mesher machine unit
  • Cutting roller or blade system
  • Carrier plates

Manual Content & Operating Procedures

Section 1: Setup & Pre-Operative Check

  1. Inspection: Ensure the machine is free of debris and that the cutting rollers rotate smoothly without resistance.
  2. Carrier Selection: Choose the appropriate graft carrier (e.g., 1.5:1, 3:1) based on the required expansion ratio.
  3. Lubrication: Apply a drop of surgical-grade lubricant to the drive gears if necessary to ensure silent and smooth operation.

Section 2: Operating Instructions

  • Graft Placement: Place the donor skin graft (dermal side down) onto the carrier. Ensure the graft is flat and free of folds.
  • Feeding the Machine: Insert the leading edge of the carrier into the entry slot of the mesher.
  • Manual Rotation: Turn the hand crank in a steady, clockwise motion. Do not force the carrier; let the rollers draw it through at a natural pace.
  • Retrieval: Carefully remove the meshed graft from the carrier using fine-tipped forceps for immediate application to the wound site.

Section 3: Sterilization & Cleaning (The "Gold Standard")

  • Pre-Cleaning: Immediately after use, rinse the mesher with cool water to prevent blood and proteins from drying on the rollers.
  • Disassembly: If the model allows, remove the handle and rollers for deep cleaning. Use a soft-bristled brush to clean between the cutting teeth.
  • Autoclave Settings: * Temperature: 134°C (273°F).
    • Duration: 3 to 5 minutes (Pre-vacuum cycle) or 15 minutes (Gravity displacement).
  • Drying: Ensure the machine is completely dry before storage to prevent oxidation, even on high-grade stainless steel.
